I will be giving a Friday evening lecture on my research in Japan then teaching a weekend lofting workshop at the Antique Boat Museum, June 13-15. In the workshop we will loft two or three boats, learning all facets of the process. I will also discuss how to make building molds from the lofted sections.

I will be presenting on Japanese boatbuilding at the Maine Japanese Woodworking Festival which runs July 24-27. I will talk about Japanese boatbuilding design, techniques, and apprenticeship, and a traditional 21-foot river boat my students built at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum workshop will be on display. We may even conduct a Shinto launching ceremony.
